Security Camera Installation Auckland

A security camera is only as good as its installation — cameras aimed at the wrong angle, cabling that fails in the first Auckland storm, or a system nobody can access from their phone is money spent for nothing. Legacy Electrical installs CCTV and security camera systems for homes and businesses right across Auckland. We plan the camera positions with you, run the cabling tidily, power everything correctly, set the system up on your phone, and hand it over working.

Wired or wireless, one camera or twenty, new install or an upgrade to a system someone else left you with — we can help.

Why use a registered electrician for your cameras?

Most security cameras need power, and in New Zealand any work connected to your property’s electrical wiring must be carried out by a registered electrician. Legacy Electrical are Registered Master Electricians, and our team includes an EWRB-registered Electrical Inspector. The power side of your install is done to New Zealand standards, protected correctly, and certified by our electricians with a Certificate of Compliance where required, backed by our lifetime workmanship guarantee. It also means we can do the whole job in one visit: new outdoor power, a switchboard circuit, floodlights, data cabling and the cameras themselves.

What we install

  • Home CCTV systems — full camera systems for houses, sleepouts, garages and driveways, recorded locally or to the cloud, viewable from your phone.
  • Commercial CCTV — multi-camera systems for shops, warehouses, factories and yards, covering entries, tills and stock areas.
  • Floodlight & spotlight cameras — camera and security lighting in one, motion-triggered.
  • Wired (PoE) systems — cabled cameras for reliability and constant recording, cable runs kept out of sight wherever possible.
  • Wireless & battery cameras — installed where running cables isn’t practical.
  • Repairs & upgrades — we diagnose, repair and expand systems others installed.

What affects the price

Camera systems vary enormously, so we quote per property rather than guess. The things that move the number: how many cameras and how much of the property you want covered, wired or wireless, cable runs and access, whether power is already available where cameras and the recorder need to go, recording and storage requirements, and camera quality (resolution, night vision, weather rating). We’ll walk you through all of this before any work starts.

Cameras, neighbours and the Privacy Act

Under the Privacy Act 2020, footage that identifies a person counts as personal information, which applies to home cameras too. You’re entitled to monitor your own property, but cameras pointed into a neighbour’s home or yard create real problems, and audio recording is far more restricted than most people realise. We think about this at the planning stage — where each camera points, what it captures, and what to switch off.

Security camera questions, answered

Do I need an electrician to install security cameras?

If any part of the installation connects to your property’s electrical wiring — a new outdoor power point, a floodlight camera or a circuit for the recorder — that work must be done by a registered electrician in New Zealand. We’re Registered Master Electricians, so the whole job stays with one team.

Wired or wireless cameras: which is better?

Wired (PoE) systems are the more reliable choice: constant power, constant recording, no batteries to change and no dropouts. Wireless suits places where cabling isn’t practical, like a detached sleepout. We’ll tell you honestly which suits your property.

Can I watch the cameras on my phone?

Yes — we set the system up on your phone before we leave and show you how to check live views and play back footage.

Can you fix or extend a system someone else installed?

Very often, yes — cameras offline, a recorder that stopped recording, or a system that needs more cameras. We diagnose what’s there and tell you whether it’s worth repairing or replacing.

Do you install cameras for businesses?

Yes — shops, warehouses, factories and yards across Auckland, often alongside the rest of the electrical work. See our commercial electrical services for the wider picture.
